Psychologist and Psychotherapist

He is a specialist in Rational Emotional Therapy (RET), a cognitive-behavioural approach, and he is registered at the Albert Ellis Institute in New York, under the supervision of Prof. Cesare De Silvestri.
He founded the Istituto Europeo per la Balbuzie e la Psicologia della Comunicazione (“European Institute for Stammering and the Psychology of Communication”) in 1997 in Milan.
He graduated in Applied Psychology at the Sapienza University of Rome with a thesis entitled “Endorphins and stress” through a partnership with the Institute for Experimental Psychobiology of the CNR (National Research Council) in Rome.
He has professional experience in the field of drug addictions, rehabilitation and re-education, through a specialisation in Hippotherapy, also known as Equine-Assisted Therapy.
He is a member of the College of Psychologists and a licensed psychotherapist. As a private practitioner he works on issues such as: anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, neurotic depression, self-depreciation, shyness, sexual disorders, psychomatic disorders, psychogenic insomnia, teenage problems and couples therapy. He has been actively engaged for 20 years in the stammering therapy at national and international level, with an innovative treatment method called “Integrated Approach”.
As an expert, he participated to many international symposia and spoke at the 23rd National Congress of Speech Therapy.
He published numerous articles on important scientific journals and he is the author of three books about stammering and the third one “Stammering, an Integrated Approach” IEB Editore, 2010, has also been translated in English and German. The other books are: “Analisi e prospettive della balbuzie” (“Analysis and Prospects of stammering” ), Verona, Positive Press, 2001 and “ La balbuzie. Un problema relazionale” (“Stammering. A relational Problem”), Roma, Armando Editore, 2006.
His researches in this field are certainly on the cutting-edge, either at an interpretative and methodological level for the treatment of children and adults stammerers. His researches are not the result of cloning or imitation of other methods and concepts:
they are the result of a reliable and accurate study of the deep dynamics of the problem of stammering. As documented by his scientific reports and publications, he was the first in Italy to speak about the relational problem, whilst noting the possibility of a certain predisposition to the problem. He has always pointed out, in all the appropriate forums, the need for further professional scientific research in order to emancipate the stutterer from a merely commercial culture.
He carried out a 5-year long Group Analysis experience at the Cattolica University of Rome – Policlinico “Agostino Gemelli”, following the suggestion of the late Prof. Leonardo Ancona, a pioneer in the studies about group dynamics in Italy. This experience represented the contest in which Dr. Bitetti managed to brilliantly overcome his own stammering problem forever and where he could lay the foundations for his deeper knowledge of this speech disorder.
Among the insiders of the therapy of stammering, he is the only one who can claim such a deep and radical evolution from this problem, so that his experience is the object of important considerations in the numerous national and international meetings in which he took part.
Group Analysis represents an interesting dynamics for all those issues that concern the human being and his interpersonal relationship. Dr Antonio Bitetti could personally test, through his evolution, how stammering is a problem of the emotional sphere and its deep relational implication, which goes beyond the outdated concepts of speech re-education and therapies on merely symptomatic basis.
He could get to the heart of the problem through a deep analysis of the intrapsychic relations that underpin stammering. This formative path represents a certainty and a guarantee for clients who are sure to place their trust in an expert.
His last publishing work is the recent book “Emozioni, comportamento e controllo” (Emotions , behaviour and control), Milano, IEB, 2016, a breakthrough book which tackle the problem of emotional control mechanism in many aspects and situations of human behaviour.

THE RESEARCH
He was the first in Italy, and this is documented by scientific reports and publications, to talk about relational problems, while underlining the possibility of a certain predisposition to the problem. He has always emphasized, in all appropriate venues, the need for greater and more serious scientific research, to emancipate the stutterer to a suitable and not merely commercial culture of the problem.
He carried out a five-year group analysis experience at the Catholic University of Rome – Policlinico “Agostino Gemelli”, at the suggestion of the late Prof. Leonardo Ancona, a pioneer of studies on group dynamics in our country. This experience represented the context where he was able to brilliantly and definitively overcome his stuttering problem and where he was able to lay the foundations for a more in-depth knowledge of this language disorder.
Group analysis represents an interesting dynamic for all the problems that have as their object the human being and his interpersonal relationship. Dr. Antonio Bitetti has been able to personally verify, through his evolution, how stuttering represents a problem of the emotional sphere and its profound relational implication that goes well beyond the now outdated concepts of language re-education and therapies on a purely symptomatic basis.
His latest editorial work is the recent book: “Emozioni, gestione e controllo” (Emotions, Behavior and Control) IEB Editore, Milan, 2016. A turning point book, which addresses the problem of the mechanism of emotional control in different aspects and situations of human behavior
